Royal Reflections: A Conversation with Chloe Star

Hiiii Chloe!! We are SO EXCITED to have you at Pop Palace!! What have you been up to? Have you done anything fun recently?
Hi! Thank you so much for having me! I just played my last show of the year a few nights ago, which was so much fun! I've also been doing a lot of traveling recently, and I'm currently getting ready to go to London to work on my album, which I'm planning to put out next year!

"Stand The Silence" feels deeply personal and introspective. Can you walk us through the inspiration behind the song and what it means to you?
“Stand The Silence” is one of the most vulnerable songs I have ever written. It's inspired by the highs and lows of my life. This year I've traveled a lot for shows and I noticed that whenever I'd get home from being on the road, I'd struggle with all the time I'd have alone. When I'm traveling I meet so many incredible people and I'm constantly mentally stimulated and inspired, so when I return home and I'm all alone, the silence just kills me.

Growing up between Los Angeles and your family’s reservation, how have your Persian and Indigenous roots influenced your music and artistry?

Everything about my upbringing has inspired my artistry immensely. I was raised with my family's traditional songs, so storytelling is huge for me when it comes to music. I strive to tell stories in all of my songs. Every song I write has purpose and intention, which is definitely inspired by the traditional songs I heard growing up on the reservation.

Being an artist requires a lot of physical and emotional energy, how do you replenish your energy and maintain your self care?
I meditate a lot, journal, workout, run, make art, and spend a lot of time with friends and family. I recharge by making sure I make self-care a priority. I am a huge advocate for protecting my mental health and putting that first.

What has been the most challenging experience you have overcome in your music career?
The most challenging experience is knowing and accepting that I can’t please everybody. That's something that has been so difficult for me because I really want to make everyone happy, but that is just an impossible standard to hold yourself to.

What’s next on the horizon for you? Are there any new projects you’re currently working on that you can share with us?
There's lots on the horizon for me next year. I'm currently preparing to fly to London to work on my album, which will be coming out next year!

Lastly, at Pop Palace, we love asking our guests to curate their own 'Royal Court' of musical influences. Who would be part of your court, and who sits on your creative throne as your biggest inspiration/all time favorite artist?
It's hard to pick just one to sit on the throne, but in my royal court I'd have Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Third Eye Blind, Billie Eilish, and Jessie Reyez.
